DIY Squirrel Proof Potted Plant Cage

Remember the Squirrel Apocalypse of 2018?

Most of New England and I do, and here’s what I’m prepping for 2019 with!

-Poultry Wire
-Wire Cutters
-Tape Measure
-Potted Plant (for weight)
-Zip Ties
-Wire (optional, for supports)

Hopefully I don’t only get four Carmen Peppers this year!

  1. Great video thanks, if there was any one thing I’d had it’s easier after you put the top on , flip it over and put the plant in
then do the top . Just easier. Thanks

  2. Question: instead of making an access door, do you think it would be possible to do a few vertical cuts around the bottom of the bottom cylinder, fold the wire mesh out so it lays flat on the ground, and put bricks on it to hold it in place? And then you could lift the whole cage off the top of the plant to access it, and then put the whole cage back in place?

  3. Hello-thank you so much for your video on the potted plant cage. I am new to container gardening this year and it has all of a sudden dawned on me that I failed to think about the squirrels and the birds that I feed . I even have 6 bird houses up on the side of the house with baby birds so the area is very active . Anyways I became very worried 😦 and was extremely concerned. I have 18 -5 gallon buckets of peppers 🫑 and tomatoes 🍅 planted and more on the way. So I was trying to come up with a plan with no luck. Until I seen your video . Thank you so much 😊! You really saved the day here in South Carolina.

  4. THANK YOU!!! This was so awesome and needed because I'm having a war on squirrels as well!!!! They decimated my bell peppers and tomatoes last year and I'm still angry about that!!!

  5. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY GARDENING LIFE!!!! The squirrels have decimated my kale and carrots on my porch. They just keep digging no matter how much cayenne pepper I sprinkle. When the rain washes it away it is literally a wrap! Thank you for this DIY video. I ordered some chicken wire a week ago and I’m still waiting for it to come in, and I’m glad I saw your video to learn how to install it. Thank you again!
